Learning cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) or cognitive behaviour skills (CBS) can help you become your own therapist!

When you have been living with a problem for some time, you may have developed ways of understanding it and dealing with it that ultimately maintain the problem, or even make it worse.

Developing new cognitive behaviour skills and using them, changes the problem - by changing the emotions, thoughts, and behaviours that contribute to problems, to worry and to unhappiness.

Cognitive Behavioural Skills help to get you “back in the saddle”…. address what’s maintaining the problem and then address what’s directly accessible to change.

Fear, Anxiety, Depression can each be changed through cognitive behavioural skills and practicing those skills.

Cognitive Behavioural Skills are about the here and now… beliefs about yourself, coping strategies, the costs and the benefits of maintaining these, and trying new small step healthier thoughts and behaviours instead.

Cognitive Behavioural Skills can be shared by a Peer Supporter who has these skills in their wellness ‘tool box’, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is group-led by a Clinician such as at CAMH and requires a doctor’s referral to a phychiatrist who recommends Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
